For over 12 years, Andrea King has successfully assisted thousands of clients with dozens of career and employment issues ranging from deciding on a career path to preparing for a job interview. Andrea is intuitive, creative, sensitive, empowering, and resourceful – varied qualities that are often hard to find in a counselor.
Andrea’s career counseling style calls upon techniques from multiple theoretical orientations, although the majority of her work is classified as brief solution-focused and cognitive-behavioral, enabling clients to overcome difficulties in a period of time notably shorter than clients working with counselors that strictly utilize longer term approaches.
Andrea offers an estimate as to the length of time it will take for clients to complete the career counseling process based on the career issues presented. Each client develops, in conjunction with Andrea, a realistic and highly satisfying career and/or educational plan, with the intention of it being followed through accordingly, ultimately leading to successful results.
Andrea earned a M.S. in Counseling with specializations in Career and College Counseling from San Francisco State University. In addition, she has a B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. She is a member of the National Career Development Association (NCDA), Oregon Counseling Association, and Oregon Career Development Association. Attending continuing education workshops each year enables her to add to the array of skills utilized within her work, becoming informed of the latest developments in her field. In addition, Andrea receives continuing education units towards her certification as a National Certified Counselor (N.C.C.), the highest level of certification available to counselors nationwide. She is also a Master Career Counselor (M.C.C.), honored by NCDA for the high level of expertise and range of career counseling services she offers to clients. She is one of only two practitioners in Oregon to hold this designation.
